Snappy is a product identification app that helps you identify items from photos and find where to buy them online. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information when you use Snappy:
- Photos you submit: When you take or upload a photo for product identification, that image is sent to our servers for processing. Photos are not stored permanently and are deleted immediately after processing.
- Search history: Your search history is stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. We do not store your search history on our servers.
- Saved items: Items you save to your shopping list are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to our servers.
- Subscription information: If you subscribe to Snappy Basic or Snappy Pro, your subscription status is managed through Apple's App Store and RevenueCat. We receive confirmation of your subscription status but do not store your payment information.
- Usage data: We may collect anonymous usage data such as the number of scans performed to improve our service.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Process your photos to identify products and find where they are sold online
- Provide search results from third-party retailers
- Manage your subscription and scan limits
- Improve the accuracy of our product identification service
- Respond to customer support requests
3. Third-Party Services
Snappy uses the following third-party services to provide its functionality:
- OpenAI: We use OpenAI's API to analyze photos and identify products. Photos submitted for identification are processed through OpenAI's services. OpenAI's privacy policy can be found at openai.com/privacy.
- Serper.dev: We use Serper to search for products across online retailers. Search queries are sent to Serper's API. Their privacy policy is at serper.dev/privacy.
- RevenueCat: We use RevenueCat to manage in-app subscriptions. RevenueCat's privacy policy is at revenuecat.com/privacy.
- Apple App Store: Purchases made through Snappy are processed by Apple. Apple's privacy policy is at apple.com/legal/privacy.
4. Data Storage and Security
We take the security of your data seriously:
- Photos are transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections and are not stored after processing
- Your search history and saved items are stored locally on your device and are never uploaded to our servers
- We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties
- Our backend infrastructure is hosted on Vercel, which maintains industry-standard security practices
5. Camera and Photo Library Access
Snappy requests access to your device's camera and photo library solely for the purpose of allowing you to take or select photos for product identification. We do not access your camera or photo library for any other purpose. You can revoke these permissions at any time through your device's Settings app.
6. Children's Privacy
Snappy is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request deletion of your data by contacting us
- Opt out of any future communications from us
- Clear your local search history and saved items at any time within the app
8. Data Retention
Photos submitted for identification are deleted immediately after processing and are never stored on our servers. Local data such as search history and saved items remain on your device until you clear them or uninstall the app.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
